About Omega
Omega is the only national charity offering a range of remote befriending programmes to adults of any age experiencing loneliness in the UK. We are dedicated to reducing social isolation and loneliness.
Letterbox is our penpal befriending programme, where client and befriender are matched according to interests and exchange hand-written (or typed) letters. Letterbox users enjoy the creativity of writing letters or making small crafts for each other, and having a personal letter come through the door can be a real treat.
Chatterbox is our free telephone befriending service, where client and befriender are matched for weekly calls over the course of at least six months.
Both allow clients to open up to their befriender and lasting friendships are made. Our data shows the programmes make a real difference to clients' wellbeing.
Because our clients tend to be vulnerable, safeguarding is really important to us. Most clients are carers, bereaved or disabled.
We're now working on creating a network of support groups, mainly by working with partner organisations. If you'd like to join forces, please get in touch!
